Well folks, you've probably seen this coming.
With my recent dedication to helping get YouGabSports off the ground, its been tough to get over here to Reel To Field and update the site accordingly. And with me dedicating my sports writing over there, it was also making this more like Reel With No Field. Anyway, I digress.
So, this quick post is to let you all know that I have set myself up a new movie only site called FragOnFilm, where I will resume casting my movie reviews and opinions at will. Having the site over at Spruz, which hosts YouGabSports, enables me to use the existing log-in I already have, while also giving myself more creative leeway in terms of site design, something I'll be taking advantage of in order to help perfect YouGab's appearance as well. Another thing it does is allow those of you who are already members at YouGab to use your user ID's to register and comment at the new site as well.
So, I thank you all for your continued support at Reel To Field, and I look forward to seeing you all at the new digs!

Welcome one and all to the first webisode of MLB Weekend Update here at YouGabSports.com, where I’ll try to keep you abreast of all the happenings within the world of Major League Baseball within the last week.
Being that we are just a week away from pitchers and catchers reporting to Spring Training, now seems to be a perfect point to pick it up and start hurling the ball around again. So grab your gloves and let’s get this started here.
Opening Monologues
- Manny Ramirez recently rejected the Dodgers latest offer, a one-year deal worth $25 million, which would make Ramirez one of the highest paid players in the game. The move would have also enabled Ramirez to reenter the free agent pool after the 2009 season, when the hitting class is significantly weaker. Instead, Manny appears to be ready to sit out the 2009 season, perhaps because he feels he can make more money on Pros Versus Joes.
- Speaking of contracts, Ramirez’s former teammate Jason Varitek recently re-upped with the Red Sox, on a one-year deal worth $5 million, plus either a team option for 2010 at $5 million or a player option worth $3 million. Ironically, Varitek could have made upwards of $10-12 million in 2009 has he and his agent chosen to accept the Red Sox offer of arbitration. Instead, he had to crawl back and accept a one year offer for half the salary. Rumor also has it that one of the clauses written into the contract was that both Varitek and Boras had to watch Larry Luchino and John Henry bath in the other $5 million.
- A federal judge today released numerous documents detailing the government’s case against all-time home run king* Barry Bonds, including a positive drug test that they say can be linked back to the slugger. In a related story, Greg Anderson, Bonds’ former trainer and best friend, has stepped forward with a condom to prove how much shrinkage the star endured while on steroids.
- The World Baseball Classic is set to begin at 6:30pm on March 5th when China and Japan open the tournament, continuing the only worldwide baseball competition now that the Olympics no longer fields the sport. At 6:32pm, a collective yawn will be heard worldwide, slowly followed by a symphony of crickets, and the running of the tumbleweeds. Still, we need to give Bud Selig a $3 million dollar raise every year.
Want to read this in its entirety? Skip on over to YouGabSports.com where the remainder of this post and others can be seen. We've already got some great conversations started over there, and we'd love to have each of you jump into the madness.
Charles Dickens once said, “An idea is like a ghost, it must be spoken to a little before it will explain itself.” Perhaps that is one reason why I write down almost every little thing that pops into my head, in order to get some sort of explanation as to why it is there in the first place.
Whether it be a quirk, an amusing little quip, or something that makes you wonder aloud, thoughts should be captured and viewed as the inspiration they may someday be.
- Why do water coolers have so much suction that when you remove an empty bottle, you risk blunt force trauma to the head from the force required to get it off? Wow, that came out sounding really wrong.
- I know it sounds pretty caustic, but the next time someone says something to me about global warming, I’m going to rip down the 6 foot long icicle hanging from my roof and show them the business end of it, especially Al Gore.
- I’m listening to people in my office saying “Happy Friday” to everyone. What’s so happy about it? To me its just you reminding me that I’m not independently wealthy enough to have not wasted yet another week here.
- I watched Tropic Thunder last night and I was left in a similar situation to the one I was left in after watching Napoleon Dynamite. This is either one of the worst movies every made or it was one of the funniest and I just don’t get it. I’m leaning toward the former more so than the latter. Sometimes you want to give these movies another try, just to make sure you were giving it a fair chance. Other times you just want to send it back to Netflix and then take a scalding shower to wash away the experience.
- Layoffs finally hit our company and some long-standing employees lost their jobs. Our controller could be heard saying, “At least she is old enough to qualify for social security.” My wife, who works for the controller, was probably considering grabbing a chair, beating him with it, and then saying, “at least you can collect disability.”
- I may be wrong, but this may be the single best “stupid criminal” story ever.
- I can’t remember a Super Bowl in recent memory, where I have heard so little about the game or the players involved. Maybe’s it’s just me, but it almost feels inconsequential.
- I’ve been doing a lot of work over at YouGabSports with Sully and Felber, and we’re really getting excited about how much participation we’ve seen over the last week. Hopefully that’s a sign of things to come. Some of you guys have made your way over there and have done a lot to make it fun. Thanks for that.
- We think because sometimes we just need some place different for our minds to wander for a bit, if for no other reason than to distract us for a minute from those things we no longer wish to think about.
I’ll leave you all with that last deep thought and let you ponder that for a bit. Enjoy your weekend and thank you for reading.
